The short answer
The biggest recent move: SABIC sold its Americas and Europe engineering thermoplastics business to Mutares on Aug 3, 2026, so Lexan, Cycolac, Cycoloy, Valox, Xenoy, Geloy and Xylex are now sold by NexPoint Materials. Noryl and Ultem are still listed by SABIC and were not among the brands named in the sale. Zytel, Crastin, Rynite and Hytrel have been Celanese brands since Nov 2022, and Delrin has been majority owned by TJC since Nov 2023. In 2026, Daicel absorbed Polyplastics (Duracon), NOVA Chemicals became part of Borouge International, and Trinseo (Magnum, Styron, Plexiglas) entered Chapter 11; it now expects to exit in the first half of 2027.

Why ownership changes matter to a buyer
A sale rarely changes the pellet. It changes the paperwork and the people around it. Plan for these:
- Data sheets move. The new owner builds a new website. Old links break. NexPoint, for example, says its data sheets will be reissued under the new name over time and are on sabic.com for now.
- Grade codes can change. Some owners add a suffix or rename a family. ExxonMobil renamed many polyethylene grades from late 2024 to early 2025 under its Signature Polymers program.
- Regulatory letters and UL files get reissued. FDA, NSF, REACH and RoHS letters and the UL Yellow Card carry a company name. Expect new versions under the new owner.
- Invoices, legal entities and email domains change. Watch for fake bank-change requests during a transition. NexPoint warned customers about this.
- Distribution can change. A new owner may add or drop distributors, or change minimums.
- Some grades get cut. A new owner may trim the grade list after a sale or a restructuring. See what to do when a grade is discontinued.
What to do when your brand changes hands
- Confirm the grade code. Ask the seller in writing whether the grade name, suffix and formula are unchanged. Use the grade cross-reference if the code changed.
- Get the new data sheet and COA format. Compare it line by line with your old sheet. See how to read a resin data sheet and what a COA should show.
- Check the UL Yellow Card. Look up the file holder name and grade on UL Product iQ. Make sure your flame rating and thickness still appear.
- Ask for updated regulatory letters. FDA, NSF, REACH, RoHS, Prop 65 and any OEM approvals. See resin compliance documents.
- Update your approved supplier list. New legal entity, remit-to address and contacts. Verify any bank change by phone.
- Watch the first lots. Run your normal incoming inspection on the first lots under the new name.
- Line up a backup. A sale or a Chapter 11 is a good time to qualify a second source. See backup source.

Common questions
Who makes Lexan now?
In the Americas and Europe, Lexan is sold by NexPoint Materials, the former SABIC engineering thermoplastics business that Mutares bought. The deal closed on Aug 3, 2026. NexPoint says product formulations and specifications are unchanged and that existing SABIC documents stay valid during the transition.
Is Zytel still DuPont?
No. Celanese bought most of DuPont Mobility & Materials, including Zytel, Crastin, Rynite and Hytrel. The deal closed on Nov 1, 2022.
Who owns Delrin now?
An affiliate of private equity firm TJC owns 80.1% of the Delrin business and DuPont kept 19.9%. The sale closed on Nov 1, 2023. Delrin now operates as its own company.
Who owns Cycolac and Noryl?
Cycolac went to NexPoint Materials with the rest of the SABIC Americas and Europe engineering thermoplastics business in Aug 2026. Noryl and Ultem are listed by SABIC in its Specialties business; they are not among the brands named in the Mutares sale.
Is Elvax a Dow or DuPont brand?
Dow. Elvax and Surlyn were DuPont brands. They became Dow brands after the Dow and DuPont merger, and Dow now lists and sells them.
Does a brand sale change the resin I buy?
Usually not right away. The new owners in these deals say formulas and plants stay the same. What changes is the paperwork: data sheets, COA format, UL file holder, regulatory letters and invoices. Confirm each one in writing and run incoming inspection on the first lots.
