Typical values from the producer’s published data sheet (Santoprene 101-73 (Celanese EN-US and SI data sheets, revised 2026-08-12)). Typical values are not specifications; the lot COA shows what you actually receive. Values only compare at the same test method and condition.

Grades to ask about instead of Santoprene 101-73

These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Santoprene 101-73, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.

GradeProducerMelt flowDensityKey propertyHow it compares

The hardness is a 5 second reading against Celanese's 15 second reading, and the compression set test runs 22 h rather than 24 h, so the numbers are not like for like. It lists Ford WSD-M2D380-A1 and GM GMW15813 Type 6 among its specifications, as does Santoprene 101-73. This is not a drop-in replacement.
Permaprene 2800 B-75ARTP CompanyNot publishedSpecific gravity 1.01 (ASTM D792)Shore A 78 (10 second delay, ASTM D2240); tensile strength 7 MPa (1,000 psi) and elongation 550% (ASTM D412, Die C); compression set 48% at 70 °C, 22 h (ASTM D395 Method B)Similar hardness and tensile strength, but heavier (1.01 vs 0.97). Compression set is reported by ASTM D395 rather than ISO 815, so it cannot be compared directly with Santoprene's 27%. RTP's HB rating at 1.5 mm comes from RTP's own ASTM D635 testing, not a UL listing. This is not a drop-in replacement.

Typical uses for Santoprene 101-73

Celanese describes Santoprene 101-73 as a versatile TPV that combines good physical properties and chemical resistance for use in a wide range of applications, and recommends it where excellent flex fatigue resistance is needed. The sheet also lists automotive OEM approvals, including Ford WSD-M2D380-A1, GM GMW15813P Type 6 and VW 50123.

What to check before you switch

  • Compare hardness at the same reading time and specimen type; TPV hardness depends on dwell time and molded vs extruded samples.
  • Compare compression set at the same standard, temperature and duration, since seals live or die on this number.
  • Check fluid and oil resistance for your actual service fluids rather than relying on general claims.
  • Run trials on your tool or die and check shrinkage, surface finish and bonding to any substrate.
  • Check whether an automotive or customer specification names Santoprene 101-73; a substitute usually needs formal approval.

Buying Santoprene 101-73 or an equivalent

Send us the grade name, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks the data sheet and we quote Santoprene 101-73 where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, saying clearly which one you would get. Orders start at one gaylord. For background on this resin family see TPE and TPV grades and buying guide; for several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.

Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.

Common questions

What is Santoprene 101-73?

Santoprene 101-73 is a soft, black thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) from Celanese. It is polyolefin based, can be run on standard thermoplastic equipment for injection molding, extrusion, blow molding and thermoforming, and Celanese recommends it for parts that need excellent flex fatigue and ozone resistance.

What is the hardness of Santoprene 101-73?

Celanese's current data sheet lists Shore A 78 on a 15 second reading (ISO 48-4 / ISO 868), even though the grade name ends in 73. Celanese does not publish a melt flow rate for this grade; the sheet notes that the material is shear dependent and that its viscosity drops as shear rate rises.

What is equivalent to Santoprene 101-73?

There is no exact equivalent. Teknor Apex Sarlink TPV 4175 and RTP Company Permaprene 2800 B-75A are TPVs in a similar hardness range, but they are tested with different hardness dwell times and compression set methods, and Permaprene is denser. Any switch needs testing and, where required, customer approval.

Is Santoprene 101-73 UL listed or food contact compliant?

Celanese lists UL file QMFZ2.E80017 (Plastics, Component) and QMFZ8.E80017 (Plastics Certified for Canada, Component), UL 94 HB recognition at 1.5 mm and 1.0 mm, UL 746B relative thermal indices of 90 °C (95 °C for strength at 3.0 mm) and UL 746C f1 outdoor suitability. The sheet does not state food contact compliance.

Can ResinBridge quote Santoprene 101-73?

Yes. Send the grade name and volume. A polymer chemist checks it and we quote the grade where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, and say which. Orders start at one gaylord; U.S. and Canada only.

Need Santoprene 101-73 or an equivalent?

A polymer chemist reviews every request, then matches your grade or finds a qualified equivalent and prices it.
