Grades we source

Metallocene polyethylene

  • Metallocene LLDPE (mLLDPE), hexene and octene, for blown and cast film
  • Plastomers (about 0.88–0.91 g/cm³) for sealant layers and soft film
  • Polyolefin elastomers, POE (about 0.86–0.89 g/cm³), for impact modification and soft-touch compounds

Metallocene polypropylene

  • Metallocene PP (mPP) homopolymer and random copolymer for fiber, spunbond and meltblown nonwovens
  • Clear mPP for thin-wall and injection molding, and cast film
  • Propylene-based plastomers and elastomers for hot melts, film and PP modification

Across both

  • Grades for hot-melt adhesive bases
  • Food-contact grades

What “metallocene” means

Metallocene is the catalyst used to make the polymer, not a separate plastic. It is used for both polyethylene and polypropylene. It builds chains of very even length and spreads the comonomer evenly along them. Compared with conventional grades made on older catalysts, that gives tougher, clearer film, lower and more consistent sealing temperatures, stronger hot tack, and less low-molecular-weight material to cause odor, haze or extractables. At the lowest densities, the same chemistry gives plastomers and soft, rubbery polyolefin elastomers. In polypropylene, the narrow chain length gives very even melt flow for fine fibers, low extractables and better clarity.

The trade-off is processing. Metallocene grades have less melt strength and run with higher motor load and head pressure, so film lines often blend them with LDPE or conventional LLDPE. Send us the grade, or its density, melt flow and comonomer, and a polymer chemist will match it or suggest a blend. Polypropylene melt flow is measured at 230°C and polyethylene at 190°C, so the numbers are not comparable across the two.

Common applications

  • Food and frozen-food packaging, and sealant layers in multilayer film
  • Stretch, cling and heavy-duty film where you want to down-gauge
  • Hot-melt adhesives with good heat stability, light color and low odor
  • Spunbond and meltblown nonwovens, and fine fiber
  • Clear, thin-wall polypropylene containers and lids
  • Impact modification of polypropylene and compounded TPO
  • Soft-touch compounds, foams, and wire and cable compounds

Typical properties

DensitymLLDPE ~0.912–0.925; PE plastomers ~0.88–0.91; POE ~0.86–0.89; mPP ~0.90 g/cm³
Melt flowPE film ~0.5–4 g/10 min (190°C); mPP fiber and nonwoven grades are much higher (230°C)
Dart impact & punctureVery high
SealingLow seal initiation temperature and strong hot tack
ClarityBetter than conventional grades of the same resin
ProcessingLower melt strength; often blended with LDPE
Relative costModerate; above conventional grades

Property ranges are general guidance and vary by grade and supplier; a polymer chemist confirms the exact spec against the data sheet and certificate of analysis for your application.

Tell us the metallocene grade you run now

A polymer chemist reviews every request, then matches your grade or finds a qualified equivalent and prices it.

We ship to the U.S. & Canada only. Orders start at one gaylord (~1,000–1,600 lb). No obligation.

What to send for an accurate quote
  • The grade name, from any supplier, or a data sheet
  • Color (natural, black or a custom match)
  • The use (film, fiber or nonwoven, hot melt, molding, compounding)
  • Melt flow, if you know it
  • Quantity for this order and what you use in a year
  • Ship-to city and state or province
