VALOX 357 is a unreinforced, impact modified, flame retardant polybutylene terephthalate / polycarbonate (PBT/PC) blend, listed under VALOX FR PBT resins, from NexPoint Materials (formerly SABIC). The data sheet lists melt flow rate as 9.6 g/10 min at 250 °C (482 °F), 5.0 kg (11.0 lb) load (ASTM D1238). Specific gravity / density: 1.34 (1.34 g/cm³, about 0.0484 lb/in³). Grades from other producers to ask about include Crastin ST830FRUV NC010 and Celanex 2016. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.

Grades to ask about instead of VALOX 357
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names VALOX 357, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crastin ST830FRUV NC010 | Celanese | 3 g/10 min at 250 °C, 5 kg (ISO 1133) | 1.37 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Unreinforced, super tough, flame retardant PBT with UV stabilizer; UL 94 V-0 (UL recognized) at 0.9 mm and 1.5 mm; Charpy notched 30 kJ/m² at 23 °C (ISO 179/1eA); HDT at 1.8 MPa 55 °C (131 °F) by ISO 75 | Like VALOX 357 it is an unreinforced, toughened, flame retardant PBT, but it is not a PC blend. It flows less (3 vs 9.6 g/10 min at the same temperature and load, though by ISO 1133 rather than ASTM D1238), reaches V-0 only at a thicker section (0.9 mm vs 0.63 mm), has lower notched Charpy impact (30 vs 45 kJ/m²) and lower HDT at 1.8 MPa (55 °C vs 84 °C, both ISO 75). No 5VA rating is shown. This is not a drop-in replacement. |
| Celanex 2016 | Celanese | 25 g/10 min at 250 °C, 2.16 kg (ISO 1133) | 1.44 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Unreinforced flame retardant PBT; Celanese states UL and CSA approved V-0 at 1/32 inch and 5V at 1/8 inch (sheet lists V-0 at 0.75 mm and 5VA at 3 mm, IEC 60695-11-10/-20); notched Izod 4.5 kJ/m² (ISO 180/1A); HDT at 1.8 MPa 68 °C (154 °F) | Matches the V-0 plus 5VA flame profile at similar thicknesses, but it is a straight flame retardant PBT with no impact modifier or PC, so notched impact is far lower (4.5 vs 45 kJ/m² on ISO 180/1A). Melt flow is measured at a lighter load than VALOX 357, so the numbers are not directly comparable, and it is denser (1.44 vs 1.34). Fine for stiff connector-type parts, not for parts that rely on 357's toughness. This is not a drop-in replacement. |

Typical uses for VALOX 357
SABIC describes VALOX 357 as a good candidate for applications in the electrical industry, including bobbins, switches and enclosures, and notes its excellent chemical resistance.
What to check before you switch
- Confirm the substitute's UL Yellow Card matches your required flame rating, thickness, color and RTI before anything else.
- Compare impact data at the same test method and temperature, since flame retardant PBT grades vary widely in toughness.
- Follow the substitute's drying instructions; polyester resins are sensitive to moisture during molding.
- Run molding trials and check shrinkage, fit and any snap or latch features before releasing production.
- Check whether a customer or OEM specification names VALOX 357; a substitute usually needs formal approval.
Buying VALOX 357 or an equivalent
Send us the grade name, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks the data sheet and we quote VALOX 357 where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, saying clearly which one you would get. Orders start at one gaylord. For background on this resin family see PET and PBT grades and buying guide; for several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.

Common questions
What is VALOX 357?
VALOX 357 is an unreinforced, impact modified, flame retardant PBT/PC blend for injection molding, rated UL 94 V-0 at 0.63 mm and 5VA at 3.0 mm. It was developed by SABIC; in the Americas and Europe the VALOX business now belongs to NexPoint Materials (Mutares), although the current data sheet is still published on sabic.com.
What is the melt flow of VALOX 357?
The Americas data sheet lists a melt flow rate of 9.6 g/10 min at 250 °C (482 °F) with a 5.0 kg load (ASTM D1238), and a melt volume rate of 8 cm³/10 min at the same conditions (ISO 1133).
What is equivalent to VALOX 357?
There is no exact equivalent. Celanese Crastin ST830FRUV NC010 is a toughened flame retardant PBT and Celanese Celanex 2016 matches the V-0 and 5VA ratings, but neither is a PBT/PC blend and both differ in flow, impact and heat resistance. Any switch needs testing and, where required, customer approval.
Is VALOX 357 UL listed or food contact compliant?
The sheet lists UL Recognized ratings of UL 94 V-0 at 0.63 mm, 5VA at 3 mm and HB at 0.46 mm under UL Yellow Cards E121562-100036617 and E121562-220786, UL 746B relative thermal indices of 120 °C electrical, 120 °C mechanical with impact and 140 °C mechanical without impact, and a UL 746C outdoor rating of F2. The sheet does not state food contact compliance.
Can ResinBridge quote VALOX 357?
Yes. Send the grade name and volume. A polymer chemist checks it and we quote the grade where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, and say which. Orders start at one gaylord; U.S. and Canada only.
