Surplus resin
Prime material left over from canceled programs, priced to move. When a lot is gone, it’s gone.
PBT/PET, 55% glass-filled, black
Injection molding grade · heat stabilized · lubricated

Why it’s discounted
This material was bought for an automotive part, a side mirror bracket assembly, and the OEM discontinued the program. The purchase orders were canceled, leaving the grade in inventory. It is prime, unused material in its original packaging, with a COA available for the lot. Molders pay $1.90/lb for this spec; this lot is $0.65/lb.
What it is
A blend of PBT and PET polyester reinforced with 55% short glass fiber. It is very stiff and strong, holds its shape to 205°C under load, and is often used to replace metal in brackets and structural parts. It matches the stiffness and strength of highly glass-filled nylon but absorbs far less moisture, so dimensions and stiffness stay steadier in humid conditions.
Good fits
- Parts already running 50 to 55% glass PBT, PET or PBT/PET
- Brackets, mounts and structural housings that need high stiffness
- Metal replacement in automotive, appliance, equipment and industrial parts
- Parts in glass-filled nylon where moisture swelling is a problem
Moving from a lower glass level, such as 30%, changes weight, shrinkage and stiffness, so plan a trial run first. A polymer chemist will tell you if it fits before you commit.

Processing
- Drying: 4 hours at 250–265°F (120–130°C) in a desiccant dryer. Like all polyesters it must be dried; wet material molds brittle. See the drying chart.
- Mold temperature: 176°F (80°C) minimum; 195–230°F (90–110°C) gives the best surface and dimensions.
- Melt temperature: within the producer’s 430–520°F (220–270°C) window; highly glass-filled grades usually run toward the upper end.
- Regrind: usable at a constant ratio, dried before use.
