About Polyethylene (HDPE / LDPE / LLDPE)

Polyethylene is the highest-volume plastic in the world for good reason: it's inexpensive, virtually inert to chemicals, easy to process, and available in densities tuned from flexible (LDPE) to rigid and strong (HDPE). It's a poor barrier to gases and has low stiffness and heat resistance, so it's chosen for toughness, chemical resistance and cost rather than rigidity.
