Supplier Raised Your Resin Price or Pushed Out Lead Times? What to Do

4 min read

A price-increase letter or a lead time that just doubled is a good moment to check where you stand, not just accept it.

1. Check whether the increase is real

Resin prices move with feedstock costs, plant outages and demand, and increase announcements aren’t always fully passed through. The simplest check is to get a second quote on the same grade, or a qualified equivalent, for the same volume.

2. Compare delivered cost, not resin price

  • Freight to your dock
  • Packaging, pallet and handling charges
  • Minimum order size
  • Payment terms
  • How long the quote is good for

See how order size changes your price.

3. Know what you’re comparing

Make sure both quotes are for prime material with a COA, so you’re comparing like with like. Prime vs. off-grade explained

4. Don’t wait for the next disruption

If lead times are slipping or your supplier has you on allocation, qualify a second source now, while you have time to sample and trial properly. How a backup source works →
