Renamed or discontinued resin grades

Find the new name for an old grade, or see which resins are being discontinued.

The short answer

Resin producers rename grades after rebrands and sales, and drop grades when they leave a business. If the name on your drawing, bill of material or bag label no longer matches the seller’s paperwork, search it below. The lookup covers 546 renamed grades from ExxonMobil and from the LyondellBasell European sites now run by Velogy.

Full lookup tables

What to do when a name changes

  • Update drawings, bills of material, purchase specs and ERP item records to the new name, and keep the old name as a reference.
  • Ask your seller for a letter confirming the new name is the same product, made at the same plant.
  • Check that UL, FDA and other regulatory letters list the new name.
  • Compare the new data sheet with your old one line by line. If any value changed, treat it as a material change.

Questions

My grade name changed. Is it the same resin?

Producers say these renames are name changes only. Ask your seller for a letter confirming the new name is the same product from the same plant, and compare the new data sheet with your old one.

What do I do if my grade is being discontinued?

Ask how much stock is left and for a last-time-buy date, write down what the replacement has to match, then qualify an alternative with a trial lot before the old grade runs out.

My grade is not in the lookup. What now?

Send it to us. A polymer chemist will check whether it was renamed, discontinued or is still sold under the same name.

Quick quote

Grade renamed, discontinued or hard to find?

Send the grade name from your print or bag label. A polymer chemist tells you what it is now and quotes it, or a matched alternative with what differs.
