The short answer

In the U.S. and Canada, nylon 66 (PA66) polymer is made by Ascend Performance Materials (Vydyne) in Florida, INVISTA in South Carolina and Ontario, and Celanese (Zytel) in Virginia and West Virginia, where Celanese cut its nylon 66 polymer output in 2026. Nylon 6 (PA6) polymer is made by BASF (Ultramid) in Texas, AdvanSix (Aegis) in Virginia, and specialty producer NYCOA in New Hampshire. Envalior (Durethan, Akulon) and RadiciGroup (Radilon, and Technyl since 2026) compound nylon here but make their base polymer elsewhere. Producers sell mainly by railcar and bulk truck on contract, so buyers who need a few gaylords usually buy through a distributor, compounder or sourcing company.

Who makes nylon 6 and nylon 66 resin in North America

The table lists companies with nylon polymer or compounding plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, checked against company pages and filings in Nov 2026. The first six make nylon polymer here. The last two are big brand owners whose North American plants compound nylon. Their base polymer comes from their own plants abroad or from other producers.

Not listed: compounders that buy polymer and sell their own nylon compounds, and brands sold here that we could not tie to a North American plant. We do not list capacities or prices. Plant roles change, so ask the seller which plant made your lot. For typical values, see PA6 properties, PA66 properties and PA66 GF30 properties.

Polymer producers vs. compounders

A polymer producer makes the nylon itself. PA6 is made from caprolactam. PA66 is made from adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine (HMD). A compounder takes that polymer and adds glass fiber, minerals, impact modifiers, heat stabilizers, flame retardants or color. Most molding grades, such as PA66 with 30% glass, are compounds.

  • Make polymer here: Ascend, INVISTA and Celanese (PA66); BASF and AdvanSix (PA6); NYCOA (specialty PA6, copolymers and long chain nylons).
  • Make polymer and compounds: Ascend, Celanese and BASF sell both base resin and their own compounded grades.
  • Compound here, polymer from elsewhere: Envalior and RadiciGroup in North America, plus many independent compounders.

PA66 depends on a short supply chain. Ascend says its Decatur, Alabama site makes adiponitrile (ADN), the raw material for HMD, at one of only a few such plants in the world, and that its Pensacola site turns that ADN into HMD. When an ADN or HMD plant goes down, PA66 supply in North America tightens. PA6 has more caprolactam sources. See nylon 6 vs nylon 66 if you are weighing a switch, and glass-filled nylon for filled grades.

Brand names and grade codes on bags and data sheets

A bag or data sheet shows the brand and a grade code, not the plant. The first letter or number often tells you the polymer. The codes below are common patterns, not official keys. Always confirm on the current producer data sheet.

If your drawing or old COA names DuPont, Lanxess, DSM, Solvay, DOMO or Honeywell, the grade may now come from a new owner. Check it in the resin brand ownership tracker or paste your list into the resin supply check.

How to buy nylon resin if you need less than a railcar

Nylon producers sell mainly on contract, by railcar, bulk truck or full truckloads of boxes. Few will open an account for a molder who needs a few boxes a quarter. Smaller buyers use other channels.

  • Authorized distributors. Producers name distributors for each region. They stock common grades in boxes and bags and sell by the box or pallet. Most producer websites have a distributor finder.
  • Compounders. If you need a custom glass level, color or additive package, a compounder can make it. Minimum runs vary by line.
  • Traders and sourcing companies. They find prime grades, equivalents and surplus lots across many sources. Ask for the producer COA and the lot number.

Packaging matters more for nylon than for most resins. Nylon picks up water from the air, so producers ship it dry in sealed, lined boxes or bags. A gaylord box holds about 1,000 to 1,600 lb (450 to 725 kg), depending on the resin; 55 lb (25 kg) bags are common for smaller needs. Keep packaging sealed until use and dry the resin to the data sheet limit before molding.

ResinBridge quotes nylon from one gaylord to a railcar, with the supplier COA on every prime lot. A polymer chemist reviews every request, and we aim to quote within one to three business days. What to send for a nylon quote

  • Grade or spec: the brand and grade name (for example Zytel 101L or Ultramid B3WG6), or the polymer (PA6 or PA66), glass or mineral percent, heat stabilized or not, and color. Nylon is usually specified by viscosity (relative viscosity or viscosity number) rather than melt flow index; send whichever your data sheet uses.
  • Process: injection molding, extrusion, film, monofilament or another process.
  • Volume: pounds per order and per year, and whether you need a one-time lot or repeat supply.
  • Ship-to: city and state or province, or ZIP or postal code.
  • Packaging: gaylord, 55 lb (25 kg) bags, bulk truck or railcar.
  • Approvals: UL listing, FDA or NSF needs, OEM specs, or whether an equivalent grade is acceptable.

Recent ownership changes buyers should know

  • RadiciGroup and Technyl, 2026. Lone Star Funds completed its purchase of RadiciGroup's High Performance Polymers and Specialty Chemicals businesses on Apr 30, 2026, and of DOMO Engineered Materials (Technyl) on May 12, 2026. From Oct 6, 2026 the combined business started moving to the RadiciGroup name. The company says product names and specs stay the same, but some legal entity names will change. Update your supplier records.
  • Ascend, Dec 2025. Ascend went through Chapter 11 in 2025 and emerged on Dec 19, 2025 with new shareholders and about $1.3 billion less long-term debt, the company says. Vydyne is still an Ascend brand.
  • Celanese nylon 66, May 2026. Celanese announced the closure of its Sakra, Singapore nylon unit and the optimization of its Richmond, VA and Washington, WV nylon 66 polymerization plants, which it said would reduce its overall polymer output. Its Nov 2, 2026 earnings slides list both steps as completed. Zytel and Celanyl remain Celanese brands.
  • Envalior. Durethan and Akulon moved to Envalior on Apr 1, 2023. Lanxess offered to sell its 40.94% stake to Advent effective Apr 1, 2026. In March 2026 Lanxess said Advent's holding company would not buy in 2026 because of a financing condition, so Lanxess still holds the stake. Further tender and purchase windows are set for 2027 and 2028.
  • Older changes still on paperwork. Zytel moved from DuPont to Celanese in Nov 2022. Torzen moved from INVISTA to RadiciGroup in 2016. Aegis has been AdvanSix since the 2016 spin-off from Honeywell.
