The short answer

DOWLEX 2047G is Dow's linear low density polyethylene for high performance stretch film; Dow's grade listing places it in the octene-based DOWLEX family and also lists lamination film, stretch cling film and diaper backsheet. Dow’s product page lists melt index 2.5 g/10 min, measured at 190°C / 374°F, 2.16 kg, ASTM D1238, and density 0.918 g/cm³. It has no slip or antiblock. Grades from other producers to ask about include NOVA SCLAIR FG220-A, an octene LLDPE for cast stretch wrap and the closest match on paper, plus ExxonMobil C4LL 2018.AY Cast, Petrothene GA502024 and NOVAPOL PF-0218-F, which are butene-type or unstated-comonomer resins, so expect lower toughness from those three. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.

Also written as: Dowlex 2047G, DOWLEX™ 2047G. Dow's sheet lists no additive or color suffixes for this grade. Do not confuse it with DOWLEX 2045G (1.0 MI, 0.920 density), a different grade. Quote the full code from your drawing or bag label.

Typical values from Dow’s own DOWLEX 2047G product page (Properties tab), checked October 31, 2026. Dow states these values are not for use in preparing specifications; the lot COA shows what you actually receive. Values only compare at the same test method and condition.

Source data sheets are listed at the bottom of this page. Confirm against the current sheet for your exact grade code and color.

The producer's sheet gives no drying step; polyethylene does not normally need drying, but material moved from a cold warehouse into a warm plant can pick up surface condensation, so let it reach room temperature in the closed box before opening.

Grades to ask about instead of DOWLEX 2047G

These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at processing shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names DOWLEX 2047G, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.

Octene copolymer LLDPE that NOVA lists for cast stretch wrap, co-extrusion and lamination, with no slip or antiblock. MI 2.3 vs 2.5; density 0.920 vs 0.918, so the film is a little stiffer. NOVA’s film data are also on 0.8 mil cast film, but from a different line (500°F melt, 800 ft/min), so treat the dart (190 vs 210 g) and tear comparison as rough. NOVA gives food-packaging status through its technical service, not on the sheet. Quote this alternative ›

Butene LLDPE designed for cast film and as an LDPE blend partner; no slip, antiblock or processing aid. Similar MI and density and similar clarity, but far lower dart and MD tear than 2047G, so it will not hold load like an octene stretch resin. ExxonMobil lists availability in Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America. See our ExxonMobil LL 1002 page. Quote this alternative ›

Pelletized LLDPE for blown or cast film; GA502024 has higher antioxidant for cast film and no slip or antiblock, North America. MI 2.0 vs 2.5; density 0.918 for both. From each producer's published data. Brand owners and grade names change; confirm on the current data sheet.

Typical uses for DOWLEX 2047G

From Dow's DOWLEX 2047G sheet and Dow's polyethylene grade listing:

  • High performance stretch film
  • Stretch cling film
  • Lamination film
  • Diaper backsheet

What to check before you switch

  • 2047G is an octene LLDPE. SCLAIR FG220-A is also octene; the other alternatives listed here are butene or unstated comonomer. On a stretch line, check ultimate stretch, holding force and puncture, not just MI and density.
  • Dow's film data are on 0.80 mil cast film, as are the SCLAIR FG220-A and C4LL 2018.AY data, but each producer used a different line; NOVA's PF-0218-F data are on 1.0 mil blown film. Compare at the same gauge and process.
  • 2047G has no slip, antiblock or processing aid. If a replacement carries a process aid or antiblock, check cling and die buildup.
  • Ask Dow or the alternative's producer for a current regulatory letter. Producers state food-contact status differently, so compare the letters, not the data sheets.
  • Compare melt index, density and film properties only at the same test condition and method.
  • Run a trial lot and check stretch, cling and gauge before you switch production.

Buying DOWLEX 2047G: price, lead time and lot size

  • Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
  • Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
  • Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need DOWLEX 2047G itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced and the monthly market update.
  • Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
  • Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
  • If DOWLEX 2047G itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.

Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.

Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.

Common questions

What is DOWLEX 2047G?

DOWLEX 2047G is Dow's octene-based linear low density polyethylene for high performance stretch film, with no slip or antiblock. Dow also lists hygiene backsheet film, apertured topsheet, artificial turf yarn and fibrillated tape.

What is the melt index of DOWLEX 2047G?

2.5 g/10 min, measured at 190°C / 374°F, 2.16 kg, ASTM D1238, with a density of 0.918 g/cm³, per Dow's product page (October 2026). Dow's older 2016 sheet listed 2.3 and 0.917, so confirm against the current TDS.
