The short answer

Vydyne 21SPC is Ascend Performance Materials’ general-purpose, unfilled, lubricated polyamide 66 (PA66), designed mainly for injection molding. Ascend filed for Chapter 11 in April 2025 and emerged on December 19, 2025 with a new ownership group; Vydyne is still an Ascend brand. Ascend publishes no melt flow rate or viscosity number for 21SPC. Density is 1.14 g/cm³ (ISO 1183), tensile modulus is 2,800 MPa dry and 1,800 MPa conditioned (ISO 527-2), and HDT is 70°C / 158°F at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75-2/A), per Ascend’s data sheet updated April 2026. Grades from other producers to ask about include Zytel 101L and Ultramid A3K. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.

Also written as: Vydyne 21SPC (natural color), Vydyne 21 SPC, 21SPC. Quote the full code from your drawing or bag label; color and additive suffixes change the grade.

Grades to ask about instead of Vydyne 21SPC

These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Vydyne 21SPC, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.

Unreinforced PA66 with mold release, same density and HDT. Stiffer dry, softer conditioned than 21SPC on the two sheets. Celanese’s current grade record confirms density, viscosity number, modulus, yield stress and HDT; the UL 94 rating is from the 2018 DuPont-era sheet. Celanese has owned Zytel since November 2022. Typical uses for Vydyne 21SPC

Ascend lists no specific end uses; it describes 21SPC as a general-purpose PA66 for injection molding. Based on the features and ratings on its data sheet, it suits:

  • Parts that need high strength, rigidity and good toughness
  • Parts that rely on good surface lubricity and abrasion resistance
  • Parts exposed to machine and motor oils, solvents and gasoline (Ascend lists resistance to many chemicals)
  • Food-contact and food-equipment parts where the FDA 21 CFR 177.1500, EU 10/2011 or NSF STD-51 ratings listed on the sheet apply (confirm with Ascend)
  • Electrical parts that need UL 94 V-2 down to 0.4 mm and a glow wire flammability index of 960°C

What to check before you switch

  • Heat aging: 21SPC lists a lubricant only, no heat stabilizer. If the part sees continuous heat, ask about a heat-stabilized PA66 such as Zytel 103HSL or Ultramid A3W.
  • Food contact and NSF: 21SPC lists FDA, EU and NSF 51 ratings. Zytel 101L and Ultramid A3K sheets make no such statement, so get the producer’s letter before switching a food-contact part.
  • Military and federal callouts: 21SPC lists MIL M-20693B and FED L-P-410A. An alternative must carry the same listing if your drawing names it.
  • Flow: Ascend publishes no viscosity number. Ultramid A3K is BASF’s easy-flow grade (MVR 120 cm³/10 min), so check fill and packing on a trial.
  • Dry before molding. Ascend lists 70°C for 1–3 h; other producers list 80°C. See the resin drying guide.
  • Compare values at the same conditioning (dry as molded vs 50% RH) and ISO method.
  • Run a trial lot and check shrinkage, cycle time and appearance before you switch production.

Buying Vydyne 21SPC: price, lead time and lot size

  • Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
  • Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
  • Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need Vydyne 21SPC itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced, nylon price per pound and the monthly market update.
  • Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
  • Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
  • If Vydyne 21SPC itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.

Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.

Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.
