Valox 420: specs and equivalent grades
30% glass-filled PBT injection molding grade sold under the Valox name, now from NexPoint Materials in the Americas and Europe. Published data, grades from other producers to ask about, and how to request a quote from one gaylord.
Request a QuoteThe short answer
Valox 420 is a 30% glass fiber reinforced polybutylene terephthalate (PBT GF30) for injection molding, described on its data sheet as strong, stiff and dimensionally stable with high heat resistance. In the Americas and Europe, Valox is now sold by NexPoint Materials, the former SABIC engineering thermoplastics business that Mutares bought in a deal that closed August 3, 2026; NexPoint says grades, plants and formulas stay the same. SABIC’s Americas data sheet lists specific gravity 1.53 (ASTM D792), melt flow 17 g/10 min at 250°C / 482°F, 2.16 kg (ISO 1133) and HDT 203°C / 397°F at 1.8 MPa (264 psi; ASTM D648, 3.2 mm). Grades from other producers to ask about include Crastin SK605 NC010, Ultradur B4300 G6 and Pocan B3235. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.
Also written as: VALOX 420 resin; VALOX* 420 on older SABIC Innovative Plastics sheets. VALOX 420SE0 (flame retardant) and VALOX 420HP are separate grades with their own data sheets. Quote the full code from your drawing or bag label; color and additive suffixes change the grade.

Valox 420 specs from the data sheet
Typical values from SABIC’s Americas data sheet for Valox 420 as published on UL Prospector (form TDS-4725, last updated March 5, 2013). UL Prospector still lists the Americas grade as Commercial: Active. Typical values are not specifications; the lot COA shows what you actually receive. Values only compare at the same test method and condition.

Dry to the 0.02% maximum moisture on the sheet before molding. PBT hydrolyzes when it is molded wet, which costs strength.
Grades to ask about instead of Valox 420
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Valox 420, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crastin SK605 NC010 | Celanese | MFR 10 g/10 min; MVR 7 cm³/10 min (250°C / 482°F, 2.16 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.53 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | HDT 205°C / 401°F at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); tensile modulus 10,000 MPa; stress at break 140 MPa (ISO 527) | Close match. Same glass level and density, lubricated with a release agent. Lower flow at the same condition (MFR 10 vs 17 g/10 min). RTI 130°C vs 140°C for Valox 420; CTI 400 vs 300. Celanese data is ISO and the Valox sheet is mostly ASTM, so strength and modulus do not compare directly. Quote this alternative › |
| Ultradur B4300 G6 | BASF | MVR 11 cm³/10 min (250°C / 482°F, 2.16 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.53 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | HDT 205°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); tensile modulus 9,800 MPa; notched Izod 100 J/m (ASTM D256) | Close match. Standard PBT GF30 from BASF, offered natural and black, with slightly lower flow than Valox 420 (MVR 11 vs 13 at the same condition). BASF lists a 60–100°C mold and up to 0.04% moisture, looser than SABIC’s 0.02%. Quote this alternative › |
| Pocan B3235 | Envalior | MVR 17 cm³/10 min (260°C / 500°F, 2.16 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.53 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | HDT 210°C / 410°F at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); tensile modulus 9,800 MPa; stress at break 145 MPa | Partial match. General-purpose PBT GF30 from Envalior. Flow is measured at 260°C, not 250°C, so the MVR does not compare directly. Envalior recommends an 80–100°C mold and drying at 120°C for 4–8 h. Typical uses for Valox 420
From SABIC’s Valox 420 data sheet:
- Appliance handles and other appliance components
- Spotlights
- Electric motors
- Connectors
What to check before you switch
- Confirm who supplies your Valox 420 now. In the Americas and Europe it comes from NexPoint Materials; older approvals, COAs and UL files may still say SABIC or SABIC Innovative Plastics. Ask for the current data sheet and Yellow Card with your quote.
- Valox 420 is rated UL 94 HB at 0.84 mm. If the part needs a V rating, ask about the flame-retardant 420SE0, which is a different grade.
- The Americas sheet lists Chrysler, Ford and GM material specifications. If your part is on one of them, an alternative needs its own listing or the OEM’s approval.
- Compare melt flow at the same condition: Crastin and Ultradur report MVR at 250°C / 2.16 kg, Pocan at 260°C.
- Glass-filled PBT shrinks less along flow than across it (0.3–0.7% vs 0.5–1.0% on the Valox sheet). Check warp and critical dimensions on first articles from any alternative.
- Ask for the producer’s food-contact or regulatory letter for the exact grade if the part needs one.
- Run a trial lot and check shrinkage, cycle time and appearance before you switch production.
Buying Valox 420: price, lead time and lot size
- Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
- Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
- Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need Valox 420 itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced and the monthly market update.
- Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
- Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
- If Valox 420 itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.
Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.
