Request a QuoteThe short answer
Kynar Flex 2800 is Arkema’s standard PVDF copolymer pellet. The current grade name on Arkema’s site is Kynar Flex 2800-00. Arkema says that, compared with its homopolymer grades, it has “a lower modulus, a better resistance to stress cracking in alkaline and oxidizing media, and a lower melting point”, and lists cable coating, extrusion of tube and plaque, and compression molding of bulky parts. Published tensile modulus is 700 MPa (ASTM D638), melting point is 143°C (ISO 11357), HDT is 48°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75), density is 1.77–1.8 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) and notched Charpy at 23°C is no break (ISO 179/1eA). The sheet lists V-0 at 1.5 mm (IEC 60695-11-10). Melt viscosity is 22–27 kPoise at 230°C and 100 s−1 (ASTM D3835), and MVR is 0.5 cm³/10 min at 230°C, 5 kg (ISO 1133). These are typical values; confirm them on the current producer data sheet. The closest grade to ask about is Kynar Flex 2800-20. Compared with the Kynar 740 homopolymer, it is much more flexible and melts lower. No grade is a drop-in replacement.

Grades to ask about instead of Kynar Flex 2800
The closest options are Arkema’s own Kynar Flex copolymers. Kynar Flex 2800-20 has the same published modulus, melting point and HDT. Kynar Flex 2850-00 has a similar melt viscosity but is stiffer and melts higher, so treat it as a check, not a match. We did not find a current producer-published sheet from another PVDF producer that we could verify as a close match. None is a drop-in replacement. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Kynar Flex 2800, any change needs that approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kynar Flex 2800-20 | Arkema | MVR 3 cm³/10 min (ISO 1133, 230°C / 446°F, 5 kg); melt viscosity 12–20 kPoise (230°C, 100 s−1, ASTM D3835) | 1.77–1.8 g/cm³ (ISO 1183-1) | Tensile modulus 700 MPa (ASTM D638); melting point 143°C; HDT 48°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); Charpy notched 60 kJ/m² at 23°C (ISO 179/1eA); V-0 at 1.5 mm; Arkema: “This product is NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certified.” | Ask about. Same polymer type with the same published stiffness, melting point and HDT. Lower melt viscosity (12–20 vs 22–27 kPoise at 100 s−1) and higher MVR (3 vs 0.5 cm³/10 min), so expect easier flow; Arkema lists injection molding for it rather than compression molding. Notched Charpy is reported as 60 kJ/m² where 2800-00 is no break. Its sheet does not list radiation crosslinking. Quote this alternative › |
| Kynar Flex 2850-00 | Arkema | MVR 1.1 cm³/10 min (ISO 1133, 230°C / 446°F, 5 kg); melt viscosity 23–27 kPoise (230°C, 100 s−1, ASTM D3835) | 1.77–1.8 g/cm³ (ISO 1183-1) | Tensile modulus 1,300 MPa (ASTM D638); melting point 158°C; HDT 46°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); relative thermal index 140 listed; V-0 at 1.5 mm; Arkema: “This product is NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certified.” | Check. Similar melt viscosity (23–27 vs 22–27 kPoise), but Arkema describes it as “less flexible than the grade KYNAR FLEX® 2800-00 resin with a higher melting point”. Tensile modulus is nearly double (1,300 vs 700 MPa). Arkema positions it for wire and cable needing UL wire ratings to 150°C. Only consider it if your part can take the extra stiffness. Typical uses for Kynar Flex 2800
Arkema’s sheet lists these processes and potential applications for Kynar Flex 2800-00:
- Cable coating
- Tubing (listed as a potential application)
- Plenum pipe (listed as a potential application)
- Extruded tube and plaque

What to check before you switch
- Owner check: the current Kynar Flex 2800-00 data sheet is issued by Arkema, and Arkema lists Kynar Flex inside its Kynar PVDF family. Confirm on your quote who issues the COA and any compliance letters. See who makes Kynar.
- Confirm the suffix. Arkema publishes separate sheets for 2800-00, 2800-00M and 2800-20. An old drawing that says only “Kynar Flex 2800” needs a check on which one was approved.
- Do not swap in a homopolymer without a design check. Kynar 740 lists a tensile modulus of 1,800 MPa and a melting point of 168°C, against 700 MPa and 143°C here. A flexible tube or jacket made in 740 will be much stiffer.
- Watch the heat. HDT is 48°C at 1.8 MPa and Vicat is 79°C on the 2800-00 sheet, far below the homopolymer. Check your service temperature under load.
- Compare flow at the same test and condition. Use melt viscosity (ASTM D3835) or MVR (ISO 1133, 230°C, 5 kg) when you compare lots or grades, and confirm the load before comparing any MFR figure.
- Wire and cable ratings belong to the finished cable. The resin’s V-0 rating and UL yellow card are a starting point; see wire and cable compounds.
- Stay inside the melt temperature window on the sheet (240°C maximum for injection molding). Overheated PVDF can release hydrogen fluoride; see the PVDF buying guide.
- If a customer asks for PFAS-free materials, see PFAS-free alternatives. Run a trial lot and check flexibility, surface and dimensions before you switch production.
