Request a QuoteThe short answer
Makrolon 2407 is Covestro’s low viscosity, UV-stabilized, general-purpose polycarbonate (PC) with easy release, for injection molding in transparent, translucent and opaque colors. It is the UV-stabilized counterpart of Makrolon 2405. Covestro has been owned by XRG, ADNOC’s investment arm, since December 2025; the Makrolon name did not change. Published melt volume rate is 19 cm³/10 min (MFR 20 g/10 min), measured at 300°C / 572°F, 1.2 kg, ISO 1133, and density is 1.20 g/cm³ (ISO 1183). Grades from other producers to ask about include Lexan 123R and Wonderlite PC-122U. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.
Also written as: Makrolon 2407 RE (Covestro’s partially bio-circular version, attributed by mass balance under ISCC PLUS) and Makrolon 2407 DC (a light diffusion version in translucent colors only) are listed by Covestro as separate products. ISO shortname on a 2023 copy of the data sheet: ISO 7391-PC,MLR,(,,)-18-9. Quote the full code and color number from your drawing or bag label; color and additive suffixes change the grade.

Makrolon 2407 specs from the data sheet
Typical values from Covestro’s Makrolon 2407 product page (checked October 2026). The ISO shortname comes from a December 2023 distributor copy of the data sheet. Typical values are not specifications; the lot COA shows what you actually receive. Values only compare at the same test method and condition.

Grades to ask about instead of Makrolon 2407
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: UV packages, mold release, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Makrolon 2407, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lexan 123R | NexPoint Materials in the Americas and Europe (formerly SABIC) | MVR 21 cm³/10 min (300°C / 572°F, 1.2 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.20 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Notched Izod 65 kJ/m² (ISO 180/1A); HDT 122°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75); UL 94 HB at 0.75 and 3.0 mm; transmittance 88–90 % at 2.54 mm | Closest match. Low viscosity, multi-purpose, UV stabilized, with a release agent, in transparent, translucent and opaque colors: the same recipe idea as 2407. Our copy is a 2014 sheet that lists availability in Europe only, so confirm 123R is offered in North America and ask for the current sheet and UL file. Quote this alternative › |
| Wonderlite PC-122U | Chi Mei | 22 (300°C / 572°F, 1.2 kg, ISO 1133; the copy labels it MVR but prints g/10 min) | 1.20 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Notched Izod 70 kJ/m² (ISO 180); Vicat 143°C (50 N, 50°C/h, ISO 306); UL 94 V-2 at 3.17 mm | Partial match. UV-stabilized general-purpose PC with slightly higher flow than 2407. Values come from a third-party copy that does not state a mold release, and its HDT entries look garbled, so ask Chi Mei for the current sheet. Expect imported supply; confirm origin. Typical uses for Makrolon 2407
Covestro lists 2407 as a general-purpose injection molding grade. Its published data point to these uses:
- Clear, translucent or colored parts that see sunlight or indoor light, where the UV stabilizer slows yellowing
- Clear parts that need PC toughness: 89 % light transmittance at 2 mm on the sheet
- Parts in fast or multi-cavity tools, where easy release helps ejection
- Vehicle interior parts: the sheet lists a pass on the ISO 3795 burning rate test above 1.0 mm
What to check before you switch
- Same producer, same family: Makrolon 2405 is the version without UV stabilization. If your approval names 2407 because the part sees light, do not swap to 2405 without checking.
- Lexan 123R also carries UV stabilizer and a release agent; Wonderlite PC-122U lists UV stabilization but its sheet copy says nothing about release. Ejection and painting or bonding can change.
- Flame ratings differ: 2407 lists V-2 at 0.75 mm and HB at 2.7 mm, Lexan 123R lists HB, and PC-122U lists V-2 at 3.17 mm. If your drawing calls out a UL rating, check the exact Yellow Card for the substitute.
- Polycarbonate must be dry. Covestro asks for 120°C / 248°F for 2–3 hours and 0.02 % maximum moisture; wet PC splays and loses impact strength. See our resin drying guide.
- Compare melt flow, density and impact only at the same test condition and method (ASTM vs. ISO results differ).
- Ask for the producer’s food-contact or regulatory letter for the exact grade if the part needs one.
- Run a trial lot and check shrinkage, cycle time and appearance before you switch production.
Buying Makrolon 2407: price, lead time and lot size
- Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
- Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
- Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need Makrolon 2407 itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced (and our PC price per pound page) and the monthly market update.
- Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
- Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
- If Makrolon 2407 itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.
Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.

Can ResinBridge supply Makrolon 2407?
We quote Makrolon 2407 when our supply partners can source it. If they cannot, we say so up front and quote a matched alternative, named on the quote with its data sheet, so you can decide whether to trial it.
If your grade is not listed, tell us what you run. We source commodity, engineering and specialty resins.
Need Makrolon 2407 or an equivalent?
A polymer chemist reviews every request, then matches your grade or finds a matched alternative and prices it.
