Request a QuoteThe short answer
ExxonMobil HD 6706 is a narrow molecular weight distribution hexene copolymer HDPE for injection molding, with a balance of ESCR, toughness and stiffness down to sub-zero temperatures. Under ExxonMobil's Signature Polymers renaming (late 2024 to early 2025), HD 6706.17 is now sold as ExxonMobil HD 5267 and HD 6706.62 as HD 5267.AS; ExxonMobil says the products are not changing, just the names. Published melt index is 6.7 g/10 min, measured at 190°C / 374°F, 2.16 kg, ASTM D1238 (modified), and density is 0.952 g/cm³ (ASTM D1505), per the HD 5267 Series data sheet. Grades from other producers to ask about include Marlex 9006 and Alathon M5350. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.
Also written as: ExxonMobil HDPE HD 6706.17 (now ExxonMobil HD 5267, antioxidant package), ExxonMobil HDPE HD 6706.62 (now ExxonMobil HD 5267.AS, antistatic). Quote the full code from your drawing or bag label; the suffix changes the additive package.

Source data sheets are listed at the bottom of this page. Confirm against the current sheet for your exact grade code and color.
The producer’s sheet gives no drying step; PE and PP do not normally need drying, but material moved from a cold warehouse into a warm plant can pick up surface condensation, so let it reach room temperature in the closed box before opening.
Grades to ask about instead of ExxonMobil HD 6706
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names ExxonMobil HD 6706, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marlex 9006 | Chevron Phillips Chemical | 6.6 g/10 min (190°C / 374°F, 2.16 kg, ASTM D1238) | 0.953 g/cm³ (ASTM D1505) | Flexural modulus (tangent) 185,000 psi (ASTM D790); tensile at yield 4,100 psi (ASTM D638) | Close match on flow and density. CPChem positions it for 5-gallon industrial pails, lids and closures, automotive parts and foamed parts. Flexural modulus is reported as tangent, not 1% secant, so it does not compare one for one. | Alathon M5350 | LyondellBasell | 4.5 g/10 min (190°C / 374°F, 2.16 kg) | 0.953 g/cm³ (23°C) | Flexural modulus 1% secant 1290 MPa (187,000 psi); ESCR F50 5 hr (100% Igepal, condition B); notched Izod 44 J/m at 23°C | Partial match. Narrow MWD copolymer for open head pails, large shipping containers and 55-gallon drum lids. Lower flow, so fill and cycle time change on thin walls. Typical uses for ExxonMobil HD 6706
From ExxonMobil's HD 5267 Series data sheet:
- Industrial components
- Industrial pails
- Lawn and garden accessories
- Quality housewares
- Structural foam articles
What to check before you switch
- Use the current name on new RFQs. If your drawing or approval says HD 6706.17, ExxonMobil's product finder maps it to HD 5267; HD 6706.62 maps to HD 5267.AS (antistatic). Ask ExxonMobil or your supplier to confirm in writing if your customer approval lists the old code.
- ESCR on the HD 5267 sheet is 4 hr in 10% Igepal. If your pails see detergents, oils or stress, compare ESCR at the same Igepal strength and run your own stress crack test.
- Marlex 9006 and HD 5267 have almost the same melt index; Alathon M5350 flows less, so check fill on thin walls and long flow paths.
- HD 5267 properties are on compression molded plaques; molded part results will differ.
- Ask for the producer's food-contact or regulatory letter for the exact grade if the part needs one.
- Run a trial lot and check shrinkage, warpage, cycle time and drop impact before you switch production.
Buying ExxonMobil HD 6706: price, lead time and lot size
- Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
- Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
- Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need ExxonMobil HD 6706 itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced and the monthly market update.
- Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
- Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
- If ExxonMobil HD 6706 itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.
Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.
