Request a QuoteThe short answer
Zytel ST801 NC010 is Celanese's unreinforced, super-toughened polyamide 66 (PA66-HI), sold for injection molding where impact resistance matters most. No melt flow rate is published on the current sheet. Density is 1.08 g/cm³ (ISO 1183), and notched Charpy impact at 23°C is 80 kJ/m² dry and 115 kJ/m² conditioned (ISO 179/1eA). Grades from other producers to ask about include Vydyne 41 NT, Ultramid A3Z and Vydyne 47 NT. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.
Also written as: Zytel ST801 NC010, Zytel ST801 BK010. Quote the full code from your drawing or bag label; color and additive suffixes change the grade.

Grades to ask about instead of Zytel ST801
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names Zytel ST801, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vydyne 41 NT | Ascend Performance Materials | Not published | 1.08 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Notched Charpy 76 / 110 kJ/m² dry / conditioned at 23°C, 35 kJ/m² dry at -30°C (ISO 179/1eA); tensile modulus 2,200 MPa dry; HDT 58°C at 1.8 MPa | Closest match. General-purpose, high impact-modified PA66 designed for automotive low-temperature impact requirements. Room-temperature impact is close to ST801; check the cold-impact numbers against your requirement. Quote this alternative › |
| Ultramid A3Z | BASF | MVR 21 cm³/10 min (275°C / 527°F, 10 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.06 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Notched Charpy 90 / 115 kJ/m² dry / conditioned at 23°C, 70 kJ/m² at -30°C (ISO 179/1eA); tensile modulus 1,800 MPa dry; HDT 60°C at 1.8 MPa; UL 94 HB at 1.6 mm | Partial match. Impact-modified, stabilized PA66 for parts that need low-temperature toughness. A little softer than ST801 dry. Confirm the North American grade code and supply with BASF. Quote this alternative › |
| Vydyne 47 NT | Ascend Performance Materials | Not published | 1.10 g/cm³ (ISO 1183) | Notched Charpy 19 / 62 kJ/m² dry / conditioned at 23°C (ISO 179/1eA); tensile modulus 2,800 MPa dry; HDT 63°C at 1.8 MPa | Weaker match. Medium impact-modified, so stiffer but much less tough than ST801 when dry. Ask about it only if ST801 is more toughness than the part needs. Quote this alternative › |

Typical uses for Zytel ST801
From the producer's data sheet and published listings:
- Injection-molded parts that need very high impact strength (an earlier DuPont sheet described ST801 as a general-purpose Super Tough nylon 66 with outstanding impact resistance and high productivity)
- The Zytel family is listed for automotive, furniture, domestic appliance, sporting goods and construction parts
- Check cold impact if parts see low temperatures: notched Charpy drops from 80 kJ/m² at 23°C to 18 kJ/m² at -30°C, dry (ISO 179/1eA)
What to check before you switch
- Toughness level: super-tough, high-impact and medium-impact PA66 grades differ a lot. Compare notched Charpy dry at 23°C and at -30°C, not just the word "toughened".
- Toughened nylons are softer and deflect at lower temperatures under load: ST801 has an HDT of only 64°C at 1.8 MPa (ISO 75). Check any part that carries load when warm.
- Compare dry-as-molded to dry-as-molded. ST801's tensile modulus falls from 2,000 to 900 MPa when conditioned. See nylon swelling and moisture.
- Shrinkage is relatively high (1.8 % parallel, 1.4 % normal on the ST801 sheet). Check critical dimensions on first articles.
- Same producer, different base polymer: Zytel ST7301 is a super-toughened nylon 6, not a nylon 66, so it is a different base polymer and not a direct swap. For background see impact-modified nylon.
- Compare melt flow, density and impact only at the same test condition and method (ASTM vs. ISO results differ).
- Ask for the producer's food-contact or regulatory letter for the exact grade if the part needs one.
- Run a trial lot and check shrinkage, cycle time and appearance before you switch production.
Buying Zytel ST801: price, lead time and lot size
- Lot size. From one gaylord to a railcar. See gaylord, LTL and truckload for typical weights per box.
- Where it ships from. 22+ partner warehouse locations. Material already in a partner warehouse usually moves sooner than a grade that has to come from the producer; your quote says which applies.
- Price. We do not publish prices because they move with feedstock, freight and order size. What moves your price most: lot size, color, ship-to region, and whether you need Zytel ST801 itself or can accept a matched alternative. See how resin is priced and the monthly market update.
- Paperwork. Supplier COA on every prime lot (what a COA shows). Ask for the producer’s regulatory letter or UL file if your part needs them.
- Trying an alternative? Start with one gaylord as a trial lot, molded and checked before you commit a full release.
- If Zytel ST801 itself is not available. Some branded grades are sold only through the producer’s own channels or go on allocation. If we cannot source it, we tell you, then quote a matched alternative with a side-by-side comparison.
Send the grade code, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks it before we quote; we have been in the resin business for 30+ years. For several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.
