LEXAN 940 is a polycarbonate (PC), 10 MFR, flame retardant, with mold release, supplied in opaque colors, from NexPoint Materials (formerly SABIC). The data sheet lists melt flow rate (300 °C / 1.2 kg) as 10 g/10 min (ASTM D1238). Density: 1.217 g/cm³ (0.0440 lb/in³). Grades from other producers to ask about include Makrolon 6555 and WONDERLITE PC-6600. They are not identical, so compare the data sheets and run a trial before switching.

LEXAN 940 specs from the data sheet
Typical values from the producer’s published data sheet (LEXAN FR Resins 940 (Americas technical data sheet, revision 20260331). Values below are for this Americas code, not the separate Europe sheet.). Typical values are not specifications; the lot COA shows what you actually receive. Values only compare at the same test method and condition.

Grades to ask about instead of LEXAN 940
These grades from other producers have similar published specs. None is a drop-in replacement: additive packages, flow at molding shear rates, color and approvals differ. If your part, drawing or customer approval names LEXAN 940, any change needs your approval and usually a trial.
| Grade | Producer | Melt flow | Density | Key property | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Makrolon 6555 | Covestro | MVR 10 cm³/10 min and MFR 10 g/10 min (300 °C / 1.2 kg, ISO 1133) | 1.20 g/cm³ (1,200 kg/m³, ISO 1183-1) | UL 94 V-0 at 3.0 mm and V-2 at 1.0 mm; oxygen index 35 % | Same 10 g/10 min flow class, but Covestro lists V-0 only at 3.0 mm (V-2 at 1.0 mm), while LEXAN 940 is V-0 at 1.1 mm. Covestro publishes ISO data and LEXAN 940 is published in ASTM data, so numbers are not directly comparable. Not a drop-in replacement; check the UL file at your wall thickness. |
| WONDERLITE PC-6600 | CHIMEI | MFR 10 g/10 min (300 °C / 1.2 kg, ASTM D1238) | Specific gravity 1.2 (ASTM D792) | Non-halogen flame retardant; V-0 at 1.1 mm (UL 94) per the data sheet; notched Izod 70 kg-cm/cm at 23 °C (1/8 in) | Similar flow and the same V-0 thickness on paper, but CHIMEI describes it as a non-halogen flame retardant grade (the LEXAN 940 sheet does not state its flame-retardant chemistry), the sheet says it is available in translucent (LEXAN 940 is opaque), and the CHIMEI sheet we found is dated 2014 and was hosted by a distributor. Made in Asia under a different UL file. Not a drop-in replacement; confirm the current UL card and data sheet with CHIMEI. |

Typical uses for LEXAN 940
The Americas data sheet describes LEXAN 940 as a 10 MFR polycarbonate with mold release, flame retardant, UL94 V0 rated and UL746C f1 rated, available in opaque colors. It does not list specific applications.
What to check before you switch
- Pull the UL yellow card and confirm the flame rating at your actual wall thickness and color.
- Check your customer, agency and end-use approvals; a flame-retardant change often needs requalification.
- Dry to the producer's moisture limit before molding; polycarbonate is sensitive to moisture.
- Confirm the color is available and matched; flame-retardant grades can differ in opacity and shade.
- Run a trial and check part fit, flow and flame performance before switching production.
Buying LEXAN 940 or an equivalent
Send us the grade name, your annual volume and ship-to location. A polymer chemist checks the data sheet and we quote LEXAN 940 where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, saying clearly which one you would get. Orders start at one gaylord. For background on this resin family see Polycarbonate grades and buying guide; for several grades at once, use the resin RFQ template.
Trade names belong to their owners. ResinBridge is not affiliated with these producers; grade names are used only to identify the material. Data reflects published sheets as of October 2026.

Common questions
What is LEXAN 940?
LEXAN 940 is a flame-retardant polycarbonate with mold release, sold in opaque colors. The Americas data sheet lists it as a 10 MFR grade. In the Americas and Europe, LEXAN resins are now supplied by NexPoint Materials, the former SABIC engineering thermoplastics business.
What is the melt flow of LEXAN 940?
The Americas data sheet lists a melt flow rate of 10 g/10 min at 300 °C with a 1.2 kg load (ASTM D1238).
What is equivalent to LEXAN 940?
Grades with a similar 10 g/10 min flow and a flame-retardant package include Covestro Makrolon 6555 and CHIMEI WONDERLITE PC-6600. Neither is a drop-in replacement: Makrolon 6555 is V-0 only at 3.0 mm, and PC-6600 is a non-halogen flame-retardant grade from a different producer with its own UL file. Check each sheet and UL card at your thickness.
What is the UL 94 rating of LEXAN 940, and is it food contact approved?
The data sheet lists UL 94 V-0 at 1.1 mm, UL yellow card E121562-220904. The data sheet does not state food contact compliance.
Can ResinBridge quote LEXAN 940?
Yes. Send the grade name and volume. A polymer chemist checks it and we quote the grade where we can source it, or a qualified equivalent, and say which. Orders start at one gaylord; U.S. and Canada only.
Need LEXAN 940 or an equivalent?
A polymer chemist reviews every request, then matches your grade or finds a qualified equivalent and prices it.
What to send for an accurate quote
- The grade name, from any supplier, or a data sheet
- Color (natural, black or a custom match)
- Fill type and percentage, if any
- Melt flow, if you know it
- Quantity for this order and what you use in a year
- Ship-to city and state or province
